TWELFTH BIRTHDAY

PATETONGA DIVISION VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENING There was a large gathering in the Patetonga hall when the Patetonga branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held a social evening to celebrate its twelfth birthday. There, were visitors from Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Tahuna and Kaihere. Mrs McCullough, president of Patetonga Women’s Institute of Federated Farmers, welcomed visitors and friends.

The programme commenced with the singing of the division song and was as follows:—

Pianoforte duet, Mrs L. Clark and Mrs G. Bowman; songs, Mr N. Clark, “ Beautiful Isle of Somewhere ” and “ Bluebird of Happiness national dance, Annette Shaw and Elinor Carswell; duet, Mr and Mrs G. Bowman; musical trio, Mrs J. Kelly and Barclay and Colin Clark; songs, Miss Spice, “ Galway Bay ” and 44 My Happiness songs, Mr N. Clark, 44 Dry Your Eyes ” and 44 Bendemere’s Stream”; songs, Mr N. Hill, 44 Ah Sweet Mystery of Life ” and 44 My Rosary ”; highland fling, Elinor Carswell; songs, Mrs G. Bowman, 44 Christopher Robin is Saying His Prayers ” and 44 Because.”

A Monte Carlo was won by Mr and Mrs Himes and a potato golf competition was won by Mr T. Clark. After a delightful buffet supper came tha most important part of the evening, that of cutting the birthday cake, which had been made and iced by Mrs 0. Caldwell. Mrs McCullough called on Mrs Himes, treasurer of the Piako provincial executive, to light the candles, then Mrs Caldwell, secretary of Piako provincial executive, to blow them out. Mrs J. E. Welch, president of the Piako provincial executive, had the honour of cutting the cake. Mrs Welch gave a short talk on the rest homes in Auckland, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson and Waimate, provided by the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. The Morrinsville and Tahuna branches of Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, Patetonga Women’s Institute and Patetonga branch of Federated Farmers thanked Mrs McCullough for a very pleasant evening and offered birthday greetings. The evening closed with the singing of the national anthem.
