STREET LIGHTS

EXTRA FOR BOTH TOWNS

BAY and COROMANDEL Two additional street lights were badly needed in the township of Whitianga, said Cr. H. T. Robinson at the -May meeting of the Coromandel County Council held in Coromandel. He stated that he had viewed the needs of Whitianga and he recommended that two additional lights be provided by the council. With these additions the Bay would be reasonably provided with street lighting. This request was endorsed by Cr. F. H. Purdom, who thereupon applied for two more lights for Coromandel township. Cr. A. J. Denize pointed out that the street lights i» the townships were paid for by all the lidings, many of which would receive very small benefit.

To this objection Cr. T. V. Whittle replied that the lights were a benefit to the country people as well as the town people who would be paying much increased rates in the near future. Although he was a country member of the council he thought that providing the lights was a .-Cep in the right direction ar.d he would support the proposal. The meeting decided that the extra lights in each township were necessary and that the council would provide the same.
