FIRST BALL

TURUA NATIONAL PARTY VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENING The first annual ball of the Turua branch of the National Party was held in the Turua hall recently. The hall was gaily decorated with large palms entwined with blue and white streamers. The stage was just a bower of flowers. Guests of honour were Mr A. S. Sutherland, M.P., and Mrs Sutherland, Mr C. W. Parfitt and Mr Leith-Milne, party organiser. During the evening Mrs Sutherland, in a black silk gown trimmed with gold sequins, was presented with a beautiful bouquet by Mrs R. Law, while Mr lan Jamieson, chairman of Kerepehi junior branch of the National Party, welcomed the guests. They were very enthusiastically accorded musical honours. Mr Sutherland in reply thanked everyone for their warm welcome and said how pleased he and Mrs Sutherland were to lie present. He also said how encouraging the enthusiasm of the junior members was to himself and Mr Leith-Milne and that he hoped the older members would do all in their power to help the young ones keep their interest in the party. Mr Leith-Milne also spoke of his pleasure at being present. Mr Parfitt spoke concerning the financial side of the branch. Two Monte Carlos were danced, both being won by Mrs Parfitt and her partners, Mr Colin Smythe and Mr Leith-Milne. A snowball dance was started by Mr and Mrs Sutherland. Streamers and balloons caused much fun and laughter in a dance towards the end of the evening. A delightful supper served by a committee of ladies, Mesdames H. Hicks, A. Jamieson, A. Sutton, F. Gray, R. Law, C. K. Fox and W. G. Scott, was a welcome item during the happy evening. Mr A. Sutton was M.C. and the music was supplied by Herb. Walker and his orchestra. Extras were played by Miss N. Miller.
