TIROHIA DIVISION

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

GOOD WORK DURING YEAR

The annual meeting of the Tirohia branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers took place at Mrs W. Noble’s residence, there being a very good attendance. The report read by Mrs Noble, president, stated that dressmaking classes held at the beginning of last year had been most helpful and all were sorry that Mrs Gibson was retiring. A surprise supper party had been held at the final lesson and a small token of appreciation had been given to her. One member, Mrs Lauder, had visited Mangaiti to demonstrate poker work, the Mangaiti branch presenting the branch with a crochet tray cloth. Mrs Lauder then made and presented a poker work tray to fit the cloth. Parcels of food to England had been sent at regular intervals, also clothing parcels to Corso and Poland. Tirohia had come fourth in the Rose Bowl competition and the quilt was presented to “ Scotlands,” the Women’s Division rest home. The division has had four farewells and two kitchen evenings during the year. Mrs Brigham, who had recently returned from England, visited the division at one meeting and gave a talk on her travels and especially about Garforth Institute, the place to which Tirohia sends food parcels. The birthday party was held at the president’s residence and took the form of a garden party. The cake was made by Mrs Briggs and iced by Mrs Murray. Card evenings during the winter were very popular and a financial success. Netherton institute visited Tirohia, one of their members, Mrs Berry, giving a very interesting demonstration of shoulder spray mak. ihg. Combining with the school committee a Christmas party had been held in the school grounds, every child in the district receiving a gift. The financial state of the division was very good and membership increasing.

The competitions aggregate points winners were: Best bloom, Mrs Davies 1, Mrs Johnstone 2; special bloom, Mrs Johnstone 1, Mrs Davies 2; special competition, Mrs Cliff Jackson 1, Mrs Davies 2.

Mrs Noble resigned on account of her health and the new president elected was Mrs P. Mace; secretary, Mrs Cliff Jackson (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mrs G. W. Wild; auditor, Mr Briggs.
