160 PERMITS

BUILDING ON PLAINS TOTAL VALUE £59,800 REPORT TO COUNTY COUNCIL During the year ended March 31, 1949, 1 60 building permits, of a total value of £59,800, were issued on the Hauraki Plains, reported the county engineer, Mr E. Hazledine-Barber, to the April meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. These were made up as follows: — New dwellings including bachs, 26 valued at £25,557; additions and repairs to dwellings, 45 valued at £13,300; commercial, new, alterations and repairs, 13 valued at £13,251; fat nt sheds, new, additions and repairs, including garages, 74 valued at £7490; buildings on domains, two valued at £202.

“ The number of permits average more than three a week and it will be realised that I have had little time to attempt to inspect each one. Whenever a complaint has been made or I have been asked to visit a building while in progress, I have done so. As several buildings have been cdmmenced before taking out a permit I ask the council whether they are prepared to prosecute all offenders in future, as this is strictly against your own by-laws,” added the report.
