300 PEOPLE ATTEND

COMING-OF-AGE PARTY FUNCTION AT WAITAKARURU On Friday evening, April 9, Mrs Russell of Waitakaruru entertained nearly 300 people in the Waitakaruru hall, in honour of her daughter Dorothy’s coming-of-age. The hall was most beautifully decorated with ferns, multi-coloured balloons and streamers, music being provided by Herb. Walker’s orchestra, with Mr George Yeager acting as M.C. The evening went with a swing. A very* sumptuous supper was served, everyone being accommodated at tables right round the hall. Mr Croome Clark proposed a toast to Dorothy, expressing the good wishes of all her friends for a long and happy future. Dorothy thanked everyone for their kindness and also for the wonderful array of handsome presents. She was wearing a very lovely frock of white nylon marquisette over taffeta. Mrs Russell then handed Dorothy a diamante brooch in the form of a key and also a large wooden key which was autographed by everyone present. Dorothy then cut the handsome square cake which had been made by Mrs Russell and beautifully iced by Mrs Gordon Adams. Mr Herb. Walker then thanked Mrs Russell on everyone’s behalf for the enjoyable evening, and dancing was resumed, interspersed by the following items: Songs, “ You Can’t Be True, Dear ” and “ My Happiness ” by Miss Maxine Harrison of Auckland; songs, with his own guitar accompaniment by Mr Ron Stone of Kerepehi, “ Mandrake ” and “ Barnacle Bill.” A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Shirley Ganley and Mr K. Scott, a statue waltz by Miss I. Jackson and Mr B. Donaldson; and a streamer and confetti waltz was a highlight of the evening.
