MARKED IMPROVEMENT

PAEROA SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REPORT BY THE HEADMASTER That there had been a marked improvement in attendance was reported by the acting-headmaster, Mr E. A. Meyer, to the April meeting of the Paeroa District High. School Committee. The number of pupils on the rolls was: Primary department, 491; secondary department, 104. On March 18 Mrs J. D. L. Broadley terminated her duties as relieving teacher and the committee was requested to write her thanking her for her services. April 6 was parents’ visiting day when a large gathering inspected the classrooms. The report went on to state that the two secondary inspectors, Miss Stephens and Mr Caradus, were very pleased with the working of the school. On March 30, cricket, softball and tennis teams from Ngatea District High School played teams from Paeroa District High School with the result that Paeroa secured three wins to Ngatea’s one. Making reference to athletic sports, the report went on to state that on April 1 Mrs Fulton took girl athletes to Hamilton to compete in the secondary school sports whilst, on April 9, boys in charge of Mr Kinsella were taken to Hamilton to compete in athletic events. Permission had been given to the Paeroa girls to use the basketball courts at the school on Tuesday evenings and the acting-headmaster asked that his action be confirmed by the committee.
