PLAINS PROTEST
REDUCED BUS SERVICES DECISION OF AUTHORITY COUNCIL WRITES TO MINISTER “ The Patetonga and Kaihere people are protesting very strongly, but whilst we sympathise with them, only the Minister of Transport can now intervene, as the Appeal Authority’s decision is final,” stated a letter from Edwards Motors Limited, Auckland, iu a letter to the April meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council, advising that the Thames-Hamilton service had been granted to Buses Ltd. via Paeroa and Te Aroha and that their service to Morrinsville had been curtailed.
“ To say the least, this is most disappointing, and in our council’s opinion, inconsistent, as the very reasons he (Appeal Authority) advances for the Thames people, he ignores when the Hauraki Plains people are similarly affected.” The letter for Edwards Motors Limited expressed appreciation to the chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, and council for the efforts made on behalf of residents to secure for them better transport connections with Hamilton. They assured the council that any action on the county’s part to alleviate the position would have their earnest support. On the motion of Cr. J. F. Mayn it was decided to protest to the Minister regarding the curtailment of the services to the Hauraki Plains. ;
