FINAL GAMES OF SEASON MATCHES IN PAEROA WIN FOR PAPATOETOE The Paeroa Cricket Club played the last games for the 1948-49 season over Easter. The selector had a difficult task fielding teams owing to members being away. On Saturday the Papatoetoe team defeated Paeroa by 40 runs. Most of the Paeroa batsmen found the fast bowling of J. Price more than they could manage, only three batsmen reaching double figures. L. Brooks was the most successful Paeroa bowler, taking three wickets, W. Williams and T. Williams each taking two wickets. The Papatoetoe batsmen also found the bowling hard to score off, only three batsmen reaching double figures. Paeroa: I. Kurtovich, b Price, 23; A. Millar, 0 for 11; C. Speechlay, 1 for 4. WIN FOR RAILWAYS MATCH ON SUNDAY On Sunday the Auckland Railways defeated Paeroa by 53 runs. C. Speechlay top scored for Paeroa with 49. W. Williams, 27, was batting very well when he fell to a brilliant catch. F. Carmichael held his end up in his usual style, making 24. Lack of understanding between Paeroa batsmen resulted in three men being run out.

R. Lonergan top scored for Auckland with 55 (including three sixes and four fours), R. Wright made 44 (including seven fours). Bowling for Paeroa W. Williams took five wickets. For Auckland P. Motoughney took three wickets and C. Kerr two wickets.

MATCH AT THAMES PAEROA LOSE BY 64 RUNS Easter Monday saw a Paeroa team travel to Thames, where they were defeated by 64 runs. Cleave top scored for Thames with a brilliant 53. Bowling for Paeroa W. Williams and J. Brock shared most of the wickets. The Paeroa batsmen, with the exception of T. Williams, 29, were never at ease on the grass wicket.
