GIFT FROM ENGLISH LINK RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS The February meeting of the Mercury Bay Women’s Institute was held in the hall, and there was twenty-nine members and five visitors present. The president, Mis Sharpies, was in the chair. Birthday bouquets were presented to Mesdames R. A. Smith, H. Arnold, G. Crisp and Dr. Logan, whose birthdays were in January, and to Mesdanfes Bronlund, White, Thom, A. W. White, Hughes and T. L. C. Lowe, who had birthdays in February. A letter suggesting a monetary gift for retiring federation officers was read but members were not in favour of this. It was thought that it might set up an undesirable precedent and it was decided that a letter of thanks and a bouquet, presented at the annua] meeting, should convey the sincere thanks of the institute to the recipients. A letter from a visitor to Whitianga regarding the fact that the rest room is closed during week-ends was read, but it was decided that no action should be taken until the rest room committee has received something definite by way of rules and hours from the county council. It was reported from the ParentTeachers’ Association meeting that therq, would not be a school picnic this

year so it was decided that the picnic money should be handed to the headmaster, Mr Wotherspoon, with the request that it should be used for any purpose he considered best. ' A garden party was ftrranged to raise funds for the institute and Mrs L. White offered the use of her garden. A committee consisting of Mrs Oxley, Mrs Wotherspoon and Mrs Lee, was appointed to arranged the details of the party. * Six giant hyacinth bulbs were received from" the English link and these were drawn for. A bracket of songs by a visitor, Mrs Woolley, was much enjoyed. Supper was served by Mesdames R. A. Simpson, L. D. Russell, and: W. Lowe. A bring and buy was very successfully run by Mrs Oxley. The evening closed with the singing of the national anthem. Competitions: Bloom, Miss Lee 1, Mrs Bronlund 2; vase, Mrs Bronlund 1; head, Mrs Bronlund 1; worked collar, Mrs Bronlund 1; scones, Mrs Bronlund 1, Mrs Lee 2.
