ELECTRIC PUMP

REMOVING PRAIN WATER NETHERTON BOARD ENQUIRY Considerable discussion as to the practicability of using electric pumping units to expedite the removal of surplus drain water, especially during the winter months, took place/at the February meeting of the Nctherton Drainage Board. It was finally decided to ascertain the cost of installing a pump capable of handling up to IQOjOOO gallons of water per hour, and leave it till the riext meeting to decide what action the board would take in this direction. The chairman, Mr F. H. Bennett, stated that it was his firm belief that the object of the board during the next few years should be primarily to restore the drains to thenoriginal condition, as in such a state they would, in his opinion, provide adequate drainage in the same way as they had when first constructed. Inspection last month in one of the main drains showed that at least 15 inches of mud covered the original bottom and such would have to be removed before the best results could be expected.
