GIRLS FAREWELLED

TO TAKE UP NURSING FUNCTION AT WAITAKARURU Misses Mary Stretton and Dorothy Paton, two very popular Waitakaruru girls, leaving the district to enter nursing, were the guests of honour at a farewell dance given by the residents of Waitakaruru on February 24. After a good evening’s dancing, with Mr George Yeager as M.C. and Mr F. Brown as pianist, a plentiful supper was served by the ladies. Mr Yeagar then led the girls forward and in his characteristic bright manner recalled that Mary and Dorothy were both born, reared and educated in the district, and consequently their friends were sorry to lose them, foi* apart from their close association, they had played active roles in the district’s activities. Mrs Laing was asked to present a fountain pen to each of the girls from the local hockey club. Mrs Hutchinson next spoke of Mary’s Association with the Sunday school and little Don Hutchinson on behalf of her small pupils presented her with a bedroom clock.
