BUILDING OF STOPBANK WORK MAY STOP IN MARCH “ Referring to my letter of September 23 last I have to advise you that the expenditure on the raising of the stopbank along the Piako river is expected to reach £5608 about the end of March next and when work ntust cease tinless the board agrees to contribute one quarter of the cost of additional work,” stated a letter from Mr E. Taylor, chief drainage engineer, Department of Lands and Survey, Auckland, to the February meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board. The chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, said that if work stopped at the end of March there would be a section not completed. To complete the work the board would have to find a further £472. The matter was discussed in committee for some time and when the board resumed in open meeting a resolution was passed to invite the chief drainage engineer, Mr E. Taylor, to attend the March meeting of the board when the whole position could be placed before him.
