WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT NETHERTON PARCELS FOR BRITAIN The monthly meeting of the Netherton Women’s Institute was held recently. Mrs F. A. Durman, in the absence of the president, Mrs C. Townshend, presided over a fair attendance of members. The meeting opened with the reading of the aspirations, after which a new member, Mrs C. Martin, was welcomed. Birthday sprays were presented to Mrs H. Firth and Mrs Gilbert Sarjent. The monthly collection for the food parcel was then taken up. Letters were received from Mrs Coombes, Miss R. Rei4 and Sister M. Andrews, thanking the institute for parcels sent to them in England. A donation was made to the federation to purchase a medal for the drama festival, held in July. Mrs J. Ryall offered to make a tatted centre, and Mrs Simpson a child’s frock for the sales table at the Wellington conference. Competitions resulted: Shortbread, Mrs J. Ryall 1, Mrs Bob Morrison 2, Mrs L. Johnson 3; article from one yard of material, Mrs George Sarjant 1, Mrs Bob Morrison 2, Mrs J. Ryall 3; winter decoration, Mrs E. Johnson 1, Mrs H. Prout 2, Mrs Bob Morrison 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames C. Heslop, H. Firth and M. Hill.
