ENJOYABLE DANCE

BACK TO CHILDHOOD OVER £32 FOR HALL FUNDS FUNCTION AT WHITIANGA One of the most successful social functions in Whitianga for some time was a back-to-childhood dance held in the hall on August 4. The committee must be gratified at the splendid way in which so many people turned out in costume and for the very jolly spirit which prevailed. The effort raised over £32 for hall funds. Members of the committee were Mesdames Peachey, Foster, R. Lowe, Howard, A. Whiting and Misses Gay Sewell and Leola White. Children’s fashions for several generations were present including two cubs, several babies and girls dressed as, boys and vice-versa. Hair styles varied from switches and bangs to cork-screw curls; dolls, teddy bears and rattles were abundant. The judges experienced great difficulty in coming to a decision, but the final awards were:— Men’s most original, C. K. M. Peachy, blonde girl; ladies’ most original, Mrs Crisp, modern secondary school girl; men’s humorous, W. Fussey, baby; ladies’ humorous, Mrs Bongard. The judges were Mrs Wild, Mrs Oxley and Dr Feltham. Music was supplied by “Spike” Wells and his band and Mr B. Packer was M.C. Mesdames Bongard and Hardy played extras during the evening. The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs R. W. Sewell and Mr Jackman. The copimittee served a delightful supper under difficult- conditions. Among those in costume were: Mesdames Bongard, pre-school child; A.
