WOMEN’S DIVISION

THAMES VALLEY MEETING WORK OF HOUSEKEEPERS The Thames Valley Provincial executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held their annual meeting in Thames. A motion of sympathy was accorded to Mrs Drinkwater on the loss of her husband.

Mrs A. Blackmore, retiring president, was presented with a reading lamp and umbrella in appreciation of her fine work for the province in her three years of service. Mesdames Strong, Kelly and Scott all spoke of the way in which she had helped them in the work of their respective offices.

Mrs Bouskill, Coromandel, told the meeting of a recent visit they had enjoyed from Mrs Elliott, the Dominion president.

Mrs Strong, housekeeping secretary, gave her annual report. She told the delegates how one housekeeper had travelled over 200 miles to help a mother in distress. “It is this type of woman,’’ she said, “ who is helping to keep the division housekeeping work going.” Two applications had already been received for “ Scotlands,” Auckland, the W.D.F.F. rest home.

The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs Hollis (Waikino); vicepresidents, Mesdames G. W. Wild and T. Sydenham (Tirohia and Ngatea); secretary, Mrs G. Scott; treasurer. Mrs Kelly; housekeeping secretary, Mrs A. Strong; delegate to conference in Dunedin, Mrs Hollis; co-ordin-ating committee, Mesdames Wild, Hollis and Scott.

It was decided to give £3 to the United Nations Appeal for Funds for Children.

Winners of the competitions were as follows: Wandering shilling, Mrs Moon; best bloom, Mrs R. Madgwick; parcels for Britain, Mesdames Fox, Maunder and Madgwick.
