WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
EXECUTIVE MEETING HELD
Mrs G. Pinnock (Ngatea) presided over the April executive meeting- of the Thames-Hauraki District Federation of Women’s Institutes recently Arrangements for the third annual council meeting which is to be held in St. James’ hall. Thames, on April 21. were finalised. It was reported that a large number of entries was expected in the competition section for the Arbury Cup. Seventeen institutes have competed for the Tuppy Paul Shield. Miss Elsie K. Morton is to be the guest speaker for the afternoon. Members of the two most isolated institutes, Tairua and Hikuai are making a special effort to attend the meeting which will be followed by an evening in the Fire Brigade hall. As a result of the recent street stall, funds have benefited to the extent of £27 10s.
It is hoped that the concert tour, of Coromandel may be continued next month. This tour was originally scheduled for January, but had to be postponed owing to travel restrictions.
Arrangements for the drama festival and competitions to be held in July, it was reported, are under way. Mrs A. Lithgow is to represent the federation at the South Auckland council meeting and Mrs Pinnock at the North Auckland meeting. Mrs Scott was called upon to visit Ngatea and Kai-Ngawhiri institutes during April. Mrs Pinnock took the opportunity to bid farewell to four foundation members of the committee, Mesdames Turton (Paeroa), Pacey (Waitakaruru), Johnson (Thames Coast) and Ralph (Mercury Bay). These four ladies will be greatly missed on the committee. They have resigned only to allow new members to take up executive work. Each was presented with flowers and a book in appreciation of which the ladies concerned replied suitably.
