APRIL MEETING HELD
RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS Mrs M. Bax presided over an excellent attendance of members at the April monthly meeting of the Wharepoa Women’s Institute which opened with the aspirations. The letter from the federation president, Mrs G. Pinnock, was read by the secretary, Mrs Cross.
Remits for the federation council meeting to be held this month in Thames, were read and discussed. Remits for the Dominion conference were partly discussed and will be finalised next month.
A bring and buy stall in aid of general funds did a brisk trade. A letter from England expressing sincere thanks for a food parcel received, was read by the secretary. It was decided to forward a donation of £1 to the federation and 10s to the hospital fund. Birthday sprays were presented to Mrs D. Ingley and Mrs M. Bax. The entries for the points prize, three biscuits, were excellent and resulted: Mrs C. Orr 1, Mrs J. Bax 2, Mrs M. Cross 3. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs L. McCollum. The wall competition, “Advertising.” was most interesting and was won by Mrs T. Bax.
The hostesses for the day were Mesdames D. Morrison and J. Death. The meeting closed with the ode and the singing of the national anthem.
