CAMP MOVED
WARNING AGAINST FLOOD INCIDENT ON SUNDAY When news of the phenomenal rainfall on the East Coast reached Paeroa at 4 a.m. Sunday morning, special .arrangements having been made for such reports to be sent to the Public Works Department which is interested in gauging the flow of flood-water in the rivers of the district, one of the first matters to receive attention was the safety of the Paeroa Borough Council’s sewerage contractors who were camped in the “ Dell,” a spot below the Convent, which is liable to very dangerous flooding when the Ohinemuri river rises.
With the assistance of a carrier the camp was removed before daylight. However, the river did not rise sufficiently even at high tide at 11 a.m. to endanger the camp-site. -
