HOLE IN STOPBANK
FLOODGATE COLLAPSING HAURAKI BOARD’S PROBLEM Trouble which he was experiencing with Campbell’s- floodgate was reported upon by the foreman, Mr W. Johnson, at the March meeting pf the Hauraki United Drainage Board. At the February meeting of the board the foreman was instructed to again plug the hole and he reported that he had done this by putting in a number of bags filled with clay and had then filled in the hole with more clay which he had rammed well. “ I have since inspected the floodgate and found it has collapsed again. Also a portion of the top of the stopbank where there was a large crack has collapsed,” reported the foreman. The chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, said it seemed the foundation had gone. He was very concerned about the whole position. The walls of the floodgate were cracking as a result of the stopbank being built the pipes.
It was decided that the chairman and one member meet officers from the Lands Department on the site to discuss the problem. Members expressed the opinion that the Lands Department was responsible for the position.
