LARGE ATTENDANCE
HOUSEHOLDERS AT HIKUTAIA
INTEREST IN BUS CONTRACT
The attendance of householders at the bi-ennial meeting for the election of the Hikutaia School Committee was one of the largest ever seen, approximately 130 people being present. Mr Howard Morrison presided. The main issue in front of the meeting besides the election of the committee was in connection with the contract for the running of the school buses. Both the retiring chairman, Mr A. McCollum, and Mr F. B. Burkhardt, holder of the school bus contract, addressed the meeting at some length on the subject, and a number of others present expressed their opinions and asked questions. A secret ballot was held and the following resolution, moved by Mr L. Martin, and seconded by Mr A. Lowry, was carried by a large majority. The resolution was: “That this meeting of householders re-endorse the action of the school committee in recommending to the Auckland Education Board that fresh contractors be engaged.”
