GOLF AT THE BAY
ANNUAL MEETING OF CLUB OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED The annual meeting of the Mercury Bay Golf Club was held recently at Mrs Troughear’s residence. Officers elected for the 1948 season were:—Patron, Mr A. S. Sutherland, M.P. for Hauraki; president, Mr Trevor Brett; vice-presidents, Mr R. Dale, Dr. W. J. Fetham, Mr H. Beynon and Dr. Macareth; club captain, men, Mr T. Brett; club captain, ladies, Mrs M. Banister; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. S. Otter; committee, Mrs Troughear, Mrs Niccol. Mrs Banister, Miss A. Robinson, Miss C. Brophy and Messrs Brett, Crisp, B. Troughear, J. Simpson and R. Otter. Season Opens Opening day for the Mercury Bay Golf Club was held in perfect weather on the links, which were in good condition. Play was consistently good for so early in the season. Mr J. D. Jackman officially opened the links and Mrs M. Banister, a foundation member, drove the first ball. Play for the day took the form of a Canadian foursomes tournament and this was won by Mesdames Banis - ter and Clinton-Smith, who also won a hidden hole competition. The trophies for both competitions were donated by Messrs Smith and Ross. The ladies provided an ample lunch and a delightful afternoon tea completed a most enjoyable day.
