If borax is used instead of bicarb, soda when cooking green vegetables, it will improve the flavour and make them tender, besides preserving the colour. Vegetables to be used in salads can be made crisp by soaking them in borax water.
If new shorts or shirts are found to have metal buttons, replace these with bone ones. The metal will eventually rust and spoil both that garment and others with which they come in contact in the wash.
