WORK IN DRAINS

HAURAKI UNITED AREA

REPORT BY FOREMAN

TROUBLE AT FLOODGATE

Work done to drains and outlets in the Hauraki United Drainage Board’s area was reported upon as follows by the foreman, Mr W. Johnson, at the November meeting of the board. The batters on both sides of Taylor’s outlet from the floodgate to Turua road have been laid back to the top side of the pine trees. There is still a spit on each side of the batter to be taken off and the bottom of the drain to be taken up to the top side of the road.

Work on the Kerepeehi-Kopuarahi drain, east side from the KneeboneAlwinger boundary to Soldiers drain, has been completed.

Improvements have been carried out on the Oparia roadside drain from Torr’s outlet drain to the Elvin-Hill boundary.

During the month Campbell’s floodgate was inspected and the foreman found a hole under the stopbank into which he was able to crawl. The hole was about three pipes in from the floodgate and the water had been getting along the wing to where the pipe in the culvert is broken. The hole under the stopbank and the wing has been filled in again. The damage was caused by crabs. Reporting on the Ferry roadside drain fronting Mr Harwood’s property, the foreman stated that he thought that the batter should be widened in places and ledges at the bottom'of the drain taken off and the bottom of the drain graded up.
