OBITUARY
MR CHARLES H. CLIFFORD POLICEMAN ON PLAINS Mr Charles Hugh Clifford, of Rotorua, who had been a member of the police force in Kerepeehi, has died in the Rotorua Hospital after a brief illness of two days. Born in Paeroa, Mr Clifford was a son of a member of the police force who was stationed in Waihi for many ' years. He joined the police force in* September 1914, and was stationed successively at Auckland, Tauranga, Kerepeehi, Hamilton and Rotorua. While stationed at Kerepeehi Mr Clifford took an interest in the sporting activities of the district, and he was throughout his long stay there very popular with all sections of the community. In his younger days Mr Clifford was a noted gymnast and athlete. He had an unusually accurate knowledge of the breeding .of racehorses. While at Kerepeehi trouble from an arm injury resulted in his posting to Hamilton as arms officer. Mr Clifford is survived by his wife, three daughters, and a son. Another' son was killed at El Alamein.
