HEAVY RAINFALL

NEARLY DOUBLE AVERAGE

LOWER TEMPERATURES SHOWN

The rainfall in Paeroa last month, 11.74 inches, was nearly double the average over the past 34 years for July, and was 1.51 inches more than the fall in July 1946.

The number of raindays in the month was 22. Last year July had 25 rainclays. To the end of July the total vain for Paeroa this, year was 39.34 inches, and the average rainfall for the same period is 31.4 G inches. The average for July in Paeroa is 6.29 inches. Although rain was consistent through the month the first three days saw the heaviest falls. The total up to July 3 was 6.21 inches. In spite of the number of days on which rain fell there were 13 days on which sunshine was {recorded. On three days during the month frost was recorded,, and the heaviest was shown as four degrees. Temperatures throughout the month were generally low. Only on six days was the reading above 60 degrees, and the highest for the month was 65.5 degrees. The average maximum thermometer recording was 57.5 degrees. The minimum thermometer reached 55.5 degrees on two days during the month, and the average was 42 degrees. In the first ten days of the month the barometer showed pressures of above 30 inches on seven occasions. However, after July 10 the pressure was not higher than 29.9 inches. The maximum barometer reading was 30.12 inches and the lowest reading was 29.24 inches. The average reading was 29.77 inches.
