PRIZES AWARDED

PRESENTATION DANCE ATHLETIC CLUB TROPHIES WINNERS DURING LAST SEASON Trophies and certificates won by competitors in the Paeroa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club’s championship and points competitions for the 1946-47 season were presented at a special presentation dance held in the Civic Hall, Paeroa, on Thursday night. The president of the club, Mr A. C. Boulton, before making the presentations, referred to the success of the past season, and stated that he hoped that the season this year would be as popular and successful. Mr Boulton made special mention of the D. Sanderson Memorial Challenge Cup which had been presented to the club for annual competition by junior cyclists. It had been won last season by A. Vosper with the highest aggregate points in the. junior cycling events. Former members of the club who had died while on active service were J. C. Brocket, A. V. G. Cridge, D. Sanderson, V. B. Wallace and W. Brocklebank, said Mr Boulton. Trophies won as points prizes in the 1946-47 season were awarded as follows: Mearns Challenge Trophy No. 1, for the competitor gaining the highest aggregate points, Miss P. French; Leacock Cup, for the senior distance event, R. King; Wallace Supplies Cup for the junior distance event, B. Millington; Senior Sprint Cup, G. Payne; Junior Sprint Cup, L. Richards; Senior Field Events Cup, A. Jefferies; Junior Field Events Cup, L. Richards; Mearns Challenge Trophy No. 2, for women’s aggregate points, Miss P. French; Isaac Brown Cup, for the senior cyclists’ event, R. Millar; Farmers’ Trading Cup, for the junior cyclists’ event, A. Vosper; Sharp Shield, for the most successful schoolboy under 16 years in the juniors, R. Gibbons; Wallace Supplies Trophy,for inter-house relay, Thames Valley Electric Power Board.

Gibbons; boys 14 to 16 years walk, R. Gibbons.

There were about 75 couples in attendance, and the M.C. for the evening Was Mr R. Neil. The Rhythm Trio supplied the dante music. The winners of the Monte Carid dance were Mr A. Davies arid Miss P. Morgan first, and Mr G. Powell and Miss L. Snodgrass second.-
