COROMANDEL RUGBY
GAME RESULTS IN A DRAW
COROMANDEL V. KENNEDY BAY
Coromandel and Kennedy’s Bay met in perfect weather for a Rugby match on Saturday which was played before a large crowd at Coromandel. The game ended in a draw three all, leaving both teams equal in points at the end of the first round of the championship. Several prominent players were absent from the Coromandel team, but it rather surprisingly held the Bay to a draw. In the first half the play was very even throughout and loose rushes by both packs were held up short of the line. The Bay in defending infringed and gave M. Denize an. easy chance and he made no mistake to open the scoring with a good penalty goal. Bay retaliated from a loose rush, and the ball went to Tom Hale who scored near the posts. G. Thwaites failed with the kick and the score at halttime was three all.
The Bay fussed all through the second half, but Coromandel defended well and the score was unaltered at the end of the game. For the Bay G. Thwaites and Mareroa were the pick while Pepper, Turner and K. Leggin were prominent for Coromandel. Mr W. Mangikahia was the referee.
