COROMANDEL NEWS ODDFELLOWS MEET
ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS The quarterly summoned meeting of the Loyal Hauraki Lodge was held in the Lodge room, Coromandel on Monday, November I'B, P.G. Bro. K. McNeil presiding over a very good attendance of members. A hearty welcome back to the Lodge room was accorded to Bro. DougBeech who suitably replied. A number of members who were on the sick list were reported to be progressing satisfactorily. 1 The election of officers for the next $ six months took place, P.G. Bro. S. K. i Chapman acting as installing officer. ; The officers installed were: N.G. Sis. i M. C. Carlson; V.G. Bro. P. M. J Horne; Elective Secretary, Sis. Z. S Mclnerney; Warden, Sis. M. SimJ monds; Guardian, Bro. J. Beech; Leci ture Master, P.G. Bro.. S_. K. Chapi man; Conductor, P.G. Sis. D. Inglis. ; The honours of the order were con- ! ferred on the newly installed officers. ; It, was resolved that a letter of ; congratulation on her marriage be | sent to Sis. M. Symons (nee Gamble). | The logde was then handed over to I P.G. Bro. J. W. Edgar, who peril formed the unveiling of the roll of a honour board. Bro. Edgar is the old--1 est member of the lodge, having a joined when it was opened in 1895. | He said it was a great' honour and J privilege which he had been entrusted i ' with and he thanked the lodge for their invitation to him to perform the ceremony. With the following words he let the Union Jack fall from the ■board: “ I now have the privilege of unveiling this roll of honour, dedicated to the members of this lodge who served in Great War IL One Brother, ' Alex McKenzie, paid the supreme sacrifice at Cassino, Italy, and to his memory this silver plate is dedicated. May his memory ever remain with us. The other names are those who served overseas, and this honour board is erected as a token of thankfulness for their safe return to their homes and relatives. We glorify their names and pray to Almighty God that neither they nor their children will ever be called upon again to face the horrors and dangers of war. I now unveil this tablet to the memory of the dead and in honour of those who served, both overseas and in their own ■land.” m, P.G.. Sister J. Deeble then read the Lodge prayer while members stood in silence. The board, which contains 40 names, is made of rimu with letters of silver leaf and a silver plate at the top—a perpetual reminder of what has been done for those who stayed at home. After the meeting closed supper was served and dancing and competitions played, which brought the evening to a close.
