CEREMONY AT WHITIANGA

The Mercury Bay Church was the scene of the wedding on Saturday afternoon, April 20, of Miss Dorothy Elsie Troughear, younger daughter of Mrs S. Troughear, of Whitianga, to Mr Clinton Smith son of Mrs .Smith, Remuera, Auckland. Officiating minister was Mr Howat of Turua, the service was choral while the choir rendered fitting hymns accompanied by Mr J. Broad at the organ who also played the wedding march. The bride who was given away by her brother, Mr Godfrey Crisp, made a charming picture in a gown of deep creme satin with long moulded bodice andj padded peplum and long billowing skirt and train. The beautiful lace heirloom veil lent by the bride’s aunt, Mrs V. Griffin of Thames', was worn over the face when the bride entered the church and held in place by sprays of real orange blossom to form a coronet.

The bride was attended by her sister Mrs D. Lubbe as matron of honour and Miss Nancy Price and Miss Margaret Alwinger. All three were beautifully gowned in organza pastel shades of green, blue and pink respectively, made on similar lines to the brides. They carried flowers to match the bride’s bouquet only in pastel tonings. The exquisite frocks worn by the bride and her attendants were designed and made by Miss Lillias Steedman, cousin of the bride. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Bob. Troughear brother of the bride, as best man and Mr Jack Smith brother of the groom and Mr .Stewart Taylor cousin of groom, as groomsmen. The ushers were Mr M. George and Mr R. George. The bride groom’s gift to the bride was- a beautiful emerald ring and to the bridesmaids a silver monogram cigarette case each.

The reception was held at the home of the bride’s mother “Bealing’s” and the grounds and the ideal day just lent themselves for such an event. The bride’s mother, Mrs S. Troughear, assisted by the bridegroom’s mother Mrs Smith * received the 200 guests wearing a cornflower blue suit with hat to match. Mrs Smith wore a suit of black with touches of white and matching accessories. Floral sprays were worn to tone with both ensembles. The sumptuous wedding breakfast was attractively set out in the spacious dining room and lounge. Both rooms were attractively decorated with bowls of softly shaded dahlias. The three tiered cake was made by the bride’s' mother and beautifully iced by Mi’s Jean Niccol a friend of the bride. Mr G. 'Ross acted as toast master and after the usual toasts and good wishes, Mrs Troughear invited all present to stay to an informal dance and party. The happy couple left later on, midst showers of confetti, for a motor tour of the South Island, the bride wearing a suit of Filbert with tan accessories, and hat to match. Mr and Mrs Clinton Smith s future home will be Mercury Bay. Among the 200 guests were Mrs F. G. Robinson of Wellington; Misses: N. and A.. Price (Thames), Mr and Mrs M.
