BOWLERS MEET

PRESIDENT FAREWELLED FUNCTION IN PAEROA PRESENTATION MADE Members of the Paeroa BowlingClub gathered on the green on Saturday to bid farewell to Mr Eric Westlake, popular president of the club. The senior vice-president, Mr J. Turnbull, in making a presentation to Mr Westlake, spoke of the keen interest he had always displayed in the affairs of the club. He had served on the committee, as a vice-presi-dent, and for the past year had been president. The many friends he had made would all regret ‘ his departure, although none begrudged him his wellearned promotion. Mr Westlake was a good bowler, and had met with a good deal of success during his term in .Paeroa. He had won the club singles championship, and was a member of the team which bad won the Thames Easter tourney, and this year was a member of the team which won the champion of champions competition of the South Auckland centre. He had been a member of teams which had won many one-day tourneys in the district. Good Wishes of Members He would take with him the good wishes' of all club members', and the assurance of a very hearty welcome at any time he returned to Paeroa. Other bowlers extended their good wishes to Mr Westlake and family. Edwards, paid* tribute to MT Westlake on behalf of the citizens of Paeroa. Mr Westlake had always been ready to lend a hand when requested to do so, and had displayed the same keenness and enthusiasm that he had manifested in the club. He thanked Mr Westlake for what he had done, congratulated him on his promotion arid assured him that his many friends in Paeroa would, follow his future career with interest. In reply Mr Westlake thanked the members and Mr Edwards for all the nice things they had said. He would regret leaving- Paeroa, for he had made many good friends, particularly on the bowling green. He had very pleasant memories of his association with that grand old gentleman Mr W. H. Taylor, who had been associated with the club for 40 years. It was his intention to return as often as possible and to renew the friendships made." (Particularly was he pleased with the good wishes extended to his family which he would convey to them. Three hearty cheers and the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” concluded, a pleasant function.
