GOLF BALL

FUNCTION ON THE PLAINS POPULAR SOCIAL EVENT EVENING AT WAITAKARURU What was once probably the most popular social event of the dancing season —namely the Hhuraki Plains Golf Club' Ball has been again revived after its lapse during the war years. The ball was held in the Waitakaruru Hall recently when the Te Aroha Swing ‘Stars supplied the music and Mr E. Duffin acted as M.C. The decorative effect was most attractive and was a definite feature of the evening. The sides of the walls were festooned with autumn coloured foliage, of flowers and berries with crimson and gold streainers spread outward from the centre. Golf bags, clubs, balls were interspersed at intervals, and even the l : 9th hole was depicted with the suggestive bottles and openers. In thanking members and friends for their attendance, the president, Mr Wm. Baxter, expressed thanks on behalf of club members to Mrs McClean and helpers for the amount of work spent in hall decorations. Applause from the dancers endorsed his remarks. A spot waltz was won byi Mr and Mrs Young, Waitakaruru, and the monte carlo by Miss J. Mitchell and Mr R. Mahoney.
