MEETING AT WAITAKARURU OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED The annual meeting of the Waitakaruru branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Church Hall recently when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr N. W. Hedges, president, gave a report on the activities of the branch during the year. In order to endeavour to assist in the rehabilitation of returned men and at the same time to further the progress of Waitakaruru letters were sent to the Ministers of Agriculture, Rehabilitation and Production pointing out the desirability of land in the Waitakaruru drainage area being procured by the Government for the rehabilitation of ex-ser-vicemen. A taxi license was now operating in Waitakaruru, the action of the Farmers’ Union in supporting an application to the Transport Board having’ resulted in the granting of a license. During the year at a special meeting called to discuss the advisability’ of affiliating with the Federated Farmers of New Zealand, members after hearing addresses by Mr Kruse, 'Dominion Organiser for the Farmers’ Union and Mr Selwyn Hall, president of the Northern Thames sub-provincial executive and also a member of the Auckland executive of the Farmers’ Union decided to remain in the Auckland Farmers’ Union. Mr Hedges thanked the members for their support but appealed for larger attendances at the monthly meetings. It was decided that steps be taken to assist the younger farmers of the district to form a Young Farmers’ Club. 'The following officers were re-elec-ted: —(President: Mr N. W. Hedges; vice presidents: Messrs G. Findlay and IH. T. P. Evans; secretary: Mr D. W. Parker; delegates to Northern Thames sub-provincial executive: Messrs N. W. Hedgers, H T. P. Evans and L. Hill.
