RAILWAY WIN

VERY EXCITING CRICKET SCHOOL JUST BEATEN SCOTT’S SPLENDID KNOCK Very exciting' cricket was witnessed ■at the Paeroa Domain during the week-end when Railway defeated High School by a margin of only 25 runs' .and United defeated West in a single innings match. Features of the play were a splendidl knock by Ernie Scott who was the only successful batsman for Railway and the outstanding bowling of John Jensen for 'High School. R. Harris was the pick of the High School batsmen while Goldsworthy was The best bowler for Railway.

The Railway v. High School match was closely contested throughout and until R. Harris- was bowled by Goldsworthy it appeared that High School had a great chance of scoring a victory over Railway. Jensen bowled Howard and Zanders with exceptionally good deliveries in his first'two overs and with the score at two wickets down for two runs, Railway were in an unhappy position. E. Scott batted exceptionally well against good- bowling to make 63, scoring freely all around the wicket to save Railway from collapsing altogether. -Shortly after Scott had been brilliantly: caught by J. Lally from the bowling of Cleary, the innings closed for 127 runs. E-ven after the dismissal of Faber, High School were in a sound position, good batting by Harris and Cleary bringing the runs along steadily. After exciting play the High School innings closed for 100 runs, giving Railway the victory by 25 runs. Details:— RAILWAY R. Howard, b Jensen — —- —- 0 L. Zanders, b Jensen - — 1 E.
