ELECTION YEAR

PREPARING THE ROLLS BIG' JOB BEING DONE The big job of preparing the rolls for the general election to be. held about the end of this year, is well undetn way in Thames. At this stage it consists of a thorough and systematic. purge of the rolls for the existing electorates, but from these rolls will be built up the rolls for the substantially changed electorates which will emerge from the boundary revision now in progress. There arc about 11,006 electors on the roll, and cards have been, sent out to them, asking if their addresses are the same as- those shown on the old rolls. So far, 9'300' notices have been sent out and to 1800 there have been no replies, and notices of objection to the retention of these names bfi the roll are in the course of being sent out.

Of the 9300 notices sent, there are 4600’ no changes, 1400 1 changes within the district, and 606 changes' outside the district.

Ef the cards sent out were not returned electors ran the risk disfranchisement through their own neglect. If an elector has lost the card which has been sent to him, it would’ he sufficient for him to write to the registrar’s office, stating •whether his address was the same or had been changed.
