RECIPIENT OF D.F.C.
FOUR YEARS IN AIR FORCE FLIGHT-ILIEUT J. PARKES Flight-'Lieut. John Parkes, Royal New Zealand Air Force, who has been granted the Distinguished Flying Cross, is a resident of Hamilton. He resides with his mother in Ulster street, Whitiora. Born 25 years ago, Flight Lieutenant Parkes was educated! at the Hamilton Technical High School and later joined the staff of Messrs C. L. Innes and Co., Ltd. He joined the Air Force in May, 1941, and soon left for Canada under the Empire air-training scheme, later going to Britain. On one operations toui’ over Germany in a- Halifax with Squadron 15>8 he received praise for his part in the raid. Flight-'Lieut. Parker returned to New Zealand, but was soon in action again, for he transferred to Squadron 3, flying a Ventura, in which he made two tours of the Pacific Islands. More recently he returned to New Zealand, and on discharge resumed his prewar occupation.
He is a nephew of Mrs 1 E. M. Lucas and spent some of his school holidays in Coromandel.
