DISPUTE OVER ROAD

LETTER TO THE COUNCIL QUESTION OF A FENCE At the November meeting of the Coromandel County Council a letter was read from Mr Fremlin in which he alleged that a councillor had fenced off a portion of disused road, the use of which had been granted to him some years ago by the council.

Cr. A. J. Notman said he was the councillor referred "to, and he had fenced across the old road whicfi he considered was a private one. It meant the saving of approximately 40 chains of fencing. He also Mr Fremlin had not kept the said portion of road clear of gorse as he was supposed to have done. Several of the councillors were of the opinion that it was a public road,it being the old Whangapoua road.

It . was finally proposed by Cr. W. Hamilton and seconded by Cr. A. Watkins, “that the chairman, Cr. E. Deeble; Cy.-A.' J. Denize and Cr. H. C. Bull meet the parties concerned w r ith a view to settling the matter.” —Carried.
