BASKETBALL TOURNEY MATCHES AT TAURANGA PAEROA LACKED COHESION Although the Paeroa Basketball Association representative team was unsuccessful at the Tauranga Basketball Association’s tournament, the Netherton Club team won its section without suffering a defeat, thus securing the Athletic Basketball Club Cup. Despite a very strong wind which affected the play to a considerable extent the Netherton girls outclassed their opponents in every phase of the game, the outstanding features of their play being swift, accurate passing, a solid defence, and good team work and courtcraft. The team overran all opposition in the qualifying games and defeated Maketu in the final after, a hard tussle. 'Scores were as follow: —Netherton •5, beat Tauranga High School (1), 2; Netherton 4, beat Matamata Rovers 2; Netherton 8, beat Wainui 4; Neth•erton 6, beat Tauranga High School (Bi), 1; Netherton 4, beat Maketu 3. Representative Matches The representative team was defeated by a superior side in its first match and was unable to find its usual form throughout the remaining games. Apart from the adverse playing conditions the IPaeroa team lacked •cohesion and although several players showed up well at intervals, teamwork was poor.

Results' of the games were;—Paeroa *O, lost to Matamata A, 6; Paeroa “0, lost to -Matamata B 1; Paeroa 5, 4rew with Opotiki B, 5.

The game against Matamata B was -very evenly fought, the only score being from a penalty throw given .against/Paeroa. The Opotiki B team .and the local ,team were evenly matched throughout, the score of 5all remaining unchanged after 15' minutes extra time had been played 1 . A friendly match between Netherton and Paeroa, resulted in a win for Netherton by 6 goals' to 3. The teams were: —
