HOME GUARD

SUITABLE RECOGNITION QUESTION IN THE HOUSE FORM UNDER CONSIDERATION iSpeaking in the House of Representatives Mr A. S. Sutherland (Hauraki) asked the Minister of Defence whether he would give favourable consideration to the guestion of issue of a suitable home service medal to personnel who served in the Home Guard ? Some allied countries have already expressed their intention of taking action along these lines; during the period of grave emergency the Home Guard organisation assisted materially in maintaining the high standard of civilian morale. The Hon. Mr Jones (Minister of Defence) replied that the Government had already decided to recognise the services of the Home Guard and Home Service personnel. The form of recognition is at present under consideration.
