SACRED CONCERT

AN EXCELLENT EVENING BAND & CHORAL SOCIETY FUNCTION HELD IN PAEROA A sacred concert of merit was presented to a large audience last evening in the Regent Theatre by the Paeroa Municipal Band and the Paeroa Choral Society. Those who attended were amply rewarded with a concert of the highest stardard. Music lovers in and around Paeroa will look forward to another recital of this type in the not too far distant future.

The band, under the excellent con-

ductorship of Mr E. Beilby is to be warmly praised for the rendering of such enjoyable items. The Choral Society made its first appearance and presented a bracket of three numbers, “Spring Song” (Pinsuti), “(Sweet and Low” (Barnby), “Viking Song”' (Col-eridge-Taylor). The choir, under the baton of Mr Geo. McAlonan, presented each song in a very pleasing manner. The harmony was good as was the. enunciation of every word. Complete sympathy between choir and master was apparent and this point assisted the enjoyable renditions. Assisting artists were warmly applauded at the conclusion of each item’. Money For The Band Mr E'. Kahn who was the announcer explained that the concert had been arranged' to raise money for equipment, new instruments and uniforms required by the band. Miss Rita Smith acted as accompanist. Paeroa has seldom had the opportunity of attending a Sunday evening concert and to hear such fine talent from among our local people was ’well worth while.

The programme was as under:— March, “Action Front,” the Band; hymn, “Fierce Raged' The Tempest,” the Band; solos, “Slave Song,” “Happy Bird,” Mi’s E. Kahn; saxophone trio, J. IPickford, G. and L. Vercoe, accompanist, G. Jennings; selection, “Songs Of Scotland,” the Band; songs, Paeroa Choral Society; hymn, “Abide With Me,” the Band; selection, “Scenes Of Beauty,” the Band; musical moments, G.
