COMING-OF-AGE PARTY
AIRMAN REACHES MAJORITY FUNCTION AT MERCURY BAY Mir and Mrs Arthur Simpson, Mercury Bay, held a delightful party at their home on the occasion of their son John’s twenty-first 'birthday. Friends of his from Invercargill and Auckland joined in the celebrations. Two soldiers who had only arrived in New Zealand a few days from the Middle Elast after four years’ service, were present. Quite a number of the guests shared' in entertaining with piano music’and all joined in singing the latest and popular songs. A jolly time was spent. The supper was really delicious and the tables set with everything one could wish for.
A key with 11924-1i94,5l l 924-li94 , 5 adorned the birthday cake. Mr R. A. Smith, an uncle, proposed the first and most important toast to John, congratulating him and mentioning his three years’ service in the R.A.F. and expressed the good wishes of all present. He also gave some sound advice. John very suitably replied'.
The next toast to the parents was proposed by Lieut. Eric Chote R.N.Z.N. Mr Simpson in a jolly way suitably replied. Mrs Simpson also •made a very nice little speech.
All joined happily in singing '‘For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mr Len Clark was toastmaster.
