COMPLAINT TO BOARD
' CATTLE on stopbank NEED FOR BOUNDARY FENCE “I wish to protest against cattle grazing on the stopbank at the back of my farm,” stated a letter from Mr M. Bartulovich to the September meeting of the Hauraki United 1 Drainage Board". “I have fenced by back boundary and allow my stock on the bank just enough to keep the growth in order and avoiding any possibility of damaging the bank,” added the letter which emphasised the need for a double boundary fence from his boundary to the river. >He stated that he had offered to erect half the fence but his neighbour had declined to do the other half. “I do not wish to be under any blame for the damage to the stopbank to which damage is now taking place, nor do I wish to see the bank damaged, especially contiguous to my property. I therefore request the board to prohibit these cattle from grazing on the part of the- stopbank behind my property,” concluded the letter. The opinion was expressed that the board had no authority to act regarding the erection of the boundary fence. That was a matter for the interested parties. . The chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, said the board definitely did not want the stopbank damaged. I Mr C. W. Schultz said the Fencing ■ Act would have to be operated to 1 deal with the fence. | It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the area member to interview the settlers in the area.' i On the question of damage to the stopbank it was agreed to invite the Land Drainage Engineer, Kerepeehi, to inspect the area.
