GIFT CALF SCHEME

MEETING HELD IN PAEROA AID FOR SERVICEMEN GOOD PROGRESS BEING MADE The gift calf scheme for returned servicemen, sponsored some time ago by the Dairy Producers’ Association in which they decided to canvass farmers willing to donate calves, was strengthened' by a meeting on Wednesday evening last, between D.P.A. delegates and R.S.A. officials at which details of the scheme were discussed and clarified to the mutual satisfaction of both organisations. ‘The scheme closely follows a similar plan Which has been in operation in Morrinsville district. The D.P.A. will obtain all details as to the type of calf, by whom donated, etc., to hand over to the R.S.A. who in turn a big job iij hand arranging details as to grazing, branding, etc., until the calves are ready to deliver to returned servicemen. As the plan is a very worthy one entailing much detailed work it was decided to form a combined Gift Calf Committee,, it being a resolution at the meeting that the support of any organisation in the district capable of assisting the scheme would be welcomed. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr P. Williams (R.S.A.), to the iD.P.A. for sponsoring the scheme. Messrs R. Nicol and P. Williams (R.S.A.), E. .B Hill, D. G. McMillan, R. J. W. Clark (D.P.A.)., were appointed a committee to supply details of the scheme to any person interested.
