LITTLE RAIN

FEATURE OF PAST MONTH WEATHER DURING AUGUST recordings taken in paeroa - A feature of the weather for the past month according to records kept at the Public Works Department office, Paeroa, has been the continuous rainfall showing a very small total until August 27 when heavy showers started. The total rainfall for the month was 4.16 inches compared with 3.78 inches for the same month last year and an average for August taken over the last 31 years of 4.16 inches. Up until August 27 although rain had fallen on 21 days out of the 27 the total was merely 2.40 inches while in the next three days 1.76 inches of rain were recorded, the heaviest being on August 27, the total being 1.33 inches.

The rainfall to date this year is 36.51 inches compared with 37.33 inches* for the same period last year and 35.66 inches the average for the period’ taken over the last 31 years. iSunshine was recorded on 14 days during the month, the reading being taken at 8 a.m. each day. No frosts were experienced. Barometric pressure showed little fluctuation, the lowest recording being 29,53 inches on August 30’ and the highest 3*0.34 inches on August 4. There was some variation in readings* from the thermometer, the highest being 58 degrees on August 25, while the lowest, 45 degrees, on August I’7.
