BAY FAREWELL

MR AND MRS T. BRIEN PRESENTATION OF A CHEQUE A farewell 1 was tendered to Mr and Mrs T. Brien at Mercury Bay on September 5 in the Whitianga Hall, a large number of friends attending the function. Dancing continued until about 10.30 p.m. when Mr G. Ross called on Mr H. 'Simpson, who had' known the family for some forty years, to extend the good wishes of the residents l . Hearty applause greeted Mr and Mrs Brien as they came forward' to receive the presentation. Miss Heather Dale presented' 'Mrs Brien with a lovely bouquet. 'Mr H. .Simpson spoke highly of Mr Brien and his wife and said Mr Brien had always tried to do a good' turn and 1 would always lend a helping hand to a fellow citizen in need. He would leave many friends in the Bay but the memory of Mr and Mrs Brien would be happy ones. He had l much pleasure in handing Mr Brien a cheque from the residents with their good wishes for health and 1 happiness' to both. On behalf of his wife and himself Mr Brien spoke in reply, thanking Mr Simpson and friends and confirming Mr Simpson’s remarks in that he had tried to help others and' do his best. He would miss his 1 friends very much. However, they were to live at Drury and they would be delighted to see their old friends in their new home. The ladies arranged a very nice supper. Dancing continued until midnight.
