OBITUARY
MR WILLIAM COWIE FORMER BAY RESIDENT The death occurred recently at Devonport of Mr William 1 Cowie, aged 30. The eldest of 11 children, Mr Cowie was born at Parnell, his, parents having arrived in New Zealand in 1851 in the ship Cashmere. He was' employed at the Kauri timber mills at Mercury Bay. It was there he met his wife, the daughter’ of a chieftainess of the Ngati Awa tribe. .Shortly after his marriage he successfully took up farming in the same district. When he retired he moved to Auckland and resided at Devonport until his death. (He is survived' by his. wife, one son, two daughters and eight grandchildren. Two sons 1 were killed in the Great War.
