NEGOTIATIONS FOR LAND AREA AT WAITAKARURU SETTLEMENT OF SERVICEMEN A reply from the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. B. Roberts, to matters placed before him when in Thames was received at the meeting of the Thames District Council of Primary production. The deputation consisted of Mr S. E. Hall, chairman of the council, and Messrs A. Dauby and A. Laird (Returned Services’ Association). One of the matters brought to the notice of the Minister was the desirability of acquiring a block of land at Waitakaruru for the settlement of returned servicemen.
The Minister forwarded a reply to the submissions of the deputation, made by the Minister of Rehabilitation. This letter said that from the
information forwarded, the exact location of the land was not known for certain, but it was assumed, it was StrettoA’s block. Negotiations were how proceeding with the owners' of
the land with a view to acquiring suitabler parts of the property. “I am surprised to hear they do not know where it is,” said Mr C. W. Schultz.
Mr G. Coxhead confirmed that the purchase of this block was now under consideration by the Government. It would be of interest to many to know that this was still the case, said Mr Schultz. Information about the matter should be received in a week or so, said Mr Coxhead.
