ROAD DAMAGED

TRACTOR ON TAR SEAL ATTITUDE OF THE COUNCIL FIRM STAND IN THE FUTURE The county foreman, Mr W. J. Beech, reported to the February meeting of the Coromandel County Council that a tractor had been on the 309 main highway without permission, thereby breaking the regulations'.

A discussion arose as to the amount of damage done, and it was pointed out that in endeavouring to keep off the tar seal, by dodging on and off to

the side, damage had been done to the shoulders of the tar seal. Some councillors advocated prosecuting- the offender, but it was finally proposed by Cr. A. Watkins and seconded by Cr. J. E. Jackson, “that Mr Stronach be written to notifying him that it is the intention of the council in future to prosecute in any cases of breach of regulations governing the use of tractors on roads, more particularly, the tar-sealed) portions of the highways.”—Carried. Comment by Cr. A. J. Denize: “It’s shocking the way the council is ignored,” and referred to damage done by other tractors in the county.
