PRETTY WEDDING

GOODING—SHORT CEREMONY IN PAEROA BRIDE IN IVORY SATIN GOWN ■St. Paul’s Church, Paeroa, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Saturday afternoon, December 9, when Desma Mary, daughter of Mr T. Short, Paeroa, and the late Mrs Ruby Short, was married to Walter J. E. Gooding, second son of Mr F. Gooding, of Otorohanga. Archdeacon W. G. H. Weadon performed the ceremony and Mrs H. Darby played the wedding music. The bride who was given away by her father, wore a lovely gown of ivory crepe-de-chine satin, fashioned with a fitting bodice and square neckline, while the long sleeves, full at the shoulders, ended in a point over each hand. Tiny covered buttons were sewn down the back to the low waistline, from which fell a fully shaped skirt, flared to form a train, edged with ruching. The true lovers’ knot on the train was also of similar ruch - ing. The embroidered tulle veil which had been lent by Mrs D. Moloney fell to form a second train and was caught to the head by a topknot of two Christmas lilies, while the bridal bouquet was of the same exquisite blooms.

Mrsi R. Clayton, sister of the bride, who acted as matron of honour, wore a becoming frock of du barry rose crepe, made with a fitting bodice and finished by a Peter Pan collar, threequarter sleeves and tiny buttons down the back. The fully-gathered skirt fell in folds from a low waistline and on her head she wore a shoulderlength veil of blue stiffened net, attached by flowers to match the blue cornflowers and rose-coloured gerbera daisies of her bouquet.

Little 'Beulah Waugh of Ngatea, looked charming in her full-length princess gown of delphinium blue, trimmed with tiny bows and lace, and a small collar. Her hair was covered by a pink net veil, held in place with pink rosebuds and she carried a Victorian posy of the same flowers and carnations.

The bridegroom was attended by Mr Rby Garry of Morrinsville.

The sumptuous reception which was given by Mrs J. Cochrane was held later at Bain’s Buildings, where Mrs Cochrane received her guests wearing an ensemble in black and white, with black model hat to match. The two-tier wedding cake was the gift of Mrs D. Moloney. ■Special reference was made to the recent repatriation of Flight-Lieut. S. A. H. Short, D.F.C., brother of the bride and to his well-earned decoration which has just been conferred upon him by the King.

'Congratulations from, the Mayor and Mayoress of Paeroa were conveyed by Mr. Chas. Webb and many telegrams were also read. A toast to the boys overseas was aspecially honoured, thoughts .going particularly to Pte. Fred. Tasker (prisoner of war), Flight-Lieut. S. A. H. Short (England), Dvr. R~ Clayton (Italy)' and Pte. D. S. Moloney (Italy). Mr V. Moloney (returned) ably responded).

When the bridal pair left later by car, the bride was wearing a ruby red topper coat over a floral frock with small hat and accessories to match.

Mr and Mrs Gooding will reside at Waitoa.
