THE HOLINESS OF GOD

SIN SEPARATES CHRIST BRIDGES THE GULF Human effort at its best can but inadequately describe the perfections of a holy God and Moses was no exception in this respect. He could 1 , however, speak as one who had an intimate knowledge of his Lord and his song of praise ascribes to Him all the holiness, justice and mercy which form such an essential part of the Divine character. “His work is, perfect,” reads bur text, “for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.”

God is holy; He isi just; He is merciful, and His holiness, justice and

mercy cannot in any way be impeached.' These attributes are the very essence of His nature and man in all his imperfections, as he compares himself with One so divine, feels impelled to say with the Apostle Peter “Depart from me, 0 Lord, for I am a sinful man.”

Were mankind to-day to have a clearer conception of what these qualities of God entail, he would realise to a greater extent, the awfulness of sin. It is because God is holy that sin is so terrible. It was .because the Lord Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, bore the sin of the l world in His Body on the Cross', that a holy God' was unable to look upon the face of the One He loved. If we could but understand how abhorrent sin is, then perhaps we would have some idea of the great gulf that exists between a holy God and sinful man.

But God is merciful and His great heart of love goes out to a world of sin which His justice demands should perish. The gulf between His holiness aridi your sin has been bridged by Christ and full salvation is offered to all who will accept Him as their Savious. “For as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name.” (John 1.12.) Reader, have you received Him? Next week: God’s call to man. --P.B.A.
